Saturday - The Landing of the Orange Prince

Although they don't have the scale and frequency of, say, the Gettysburg re-enactment, the celebrations for the anniversary of the foundation of the Kingdom of The Netherlands are set up in similar fashion every 25 years.

This year, being the 200th Anniversary, they have done things in style, with hundreds of extras in costumes, the re-enactment of the landing, shows from the Navy and the Royal Air Force and the actual King in attendance.

Not the actual King.

Thursday - International Documentary Film Festival

I just realised that this year's IDFA has started already, on the 20th November! It's ending on the 1st December, so still some days to go.

Really cool documentary festival: all the best titles you are going to hear about in the coming months will probably be presented here, plus concerts and fringe events..

I am reading the program and I totally wish I had the week off...(boss, if you are reading this, maybe we could go together? ;)

Wednesday - Rotterdam Design Prize 2013

Rotterdam, the hippest (and hipster-est) city in The Netherlands, is hosting it's twelfth Design Prize.

Finalist creations are on display at the Boijmans van Beuningen, which is free for Museum Card holders, and is an amazing labyrinthine wonderland of great art surprises: a must go!

Watch out for the Cattelan's curious man on the second floor (custom made for the museum, as you will see), Bruegel's Tower of Babel  and the coolest coat hanger ever.

Tuesday - Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013

It seems that the London Natural History Museum's "Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013" exhibition is very good and definitely worth a visit.

Some colleagues mentioned it yesterday at lunch and I though I'll share.

Monday - The holy cronut

The wait is finally over: the cronut has landed in The Netherlands.

This delicacy from NY, a artery clogging deep fried pastry, the love-child of a croissant and a donut (hence the name) is available in a bakery called "Van Orsouw", in Zwolle.

Sunday - I'm gotta get high!

It's quite rare to have a view from above anywhere in The Netherlands however according to the The Hague Tower's flyer, you can have the "Highest Tea Ever" at their restaurant on the last floor.

Although this claim could be ambiguous in a country famous for its coffee shops, I am assured it's the regular kind of tea we are talking about...

Sip your tea, enjoy your cake, take in the view. When the sky is clear, you can see the cranes in Rotterdam's harbour and Delft's spires.
